stravaganza [It.]

A piece that is in some way extravagant or unconventional in style, in demands on the performer, or in conception. The term appears in the late 16th century in the title of a work for organ by Giovanni Macque (HAM, no. 174) and was later used by Vivaldi (op. 4) and others.
